Go, Red Peppers!

It's that time of the year again!  Kenzers has started soccer for the spring.  (Here she is pictured on a breakaway.  Sadly she didn't score, but she came close!) Parker chose to take a science class at the community center with some friends, so for right now it's only Kenzie doing soccer.  Spring is crazy enough for our schedules, so I'm glad to only have her games and practices this time around to worry about!
Her team decided to change their names from Red Dragons (which is so last fall, I guess) to Red Peppers.  Kenzie plays all the positions, including goalie, and seems to enjoy it all.  Here's to spring soccer!

Curling Class

Last night Chris and I went out for pizza and then went to the Olympic Oval in Kearns and took a beginning curling class.  Chris has always watched curling during the Olympics, and I usually don't have the patience for it and tease him a bit.  It might be slow to watch, but it actually is pretty fun to play!
An in action shot while Chris was a sweeper.  That sweeping was no joke - my arms are sore today!  It was also incredibly awkward to try to learn how to push off the hack and curl the stone without falling over.  My main goal was just to not completely embarrass myself.  Luckily everyone else in our group was a total beginner, too, and there was a lot of laughing going on.
Posing as we finished up.  I was the very last person to take a turn (that is, I was the skipper and I had the hammer), and I'd like to take this moment to brag that I knocked the opposing team's rock out of the house, and we were able to score 2, thus leaving our final score at 3-3.  (I think I used almost all the curling terms I know in that sentence).
Taking a selfie with our brooms as we left.  It was a fun date night!

Kenzie's Band Concert

This flute player of mine is well past the halfway mark of her 7th grade year.  That's crazy.  She is still enjoying band and playing her flute.
(Kenzers is front row, second from left)  It has been cute to notice some improvements as each concert comes around, with the most recent one being last night.
The boys deserve credit for being good sports and watching the bands play.  Cameron rolled around under his seat a few times, but when the songs ended he popped right up to clap.
A short clip from their last song.
As the concert ended, her band teacher announced, "Parents, they did such a great job, take your student out for ice cream." Well, we didn't want Kenzie to fail her assignment!

Job Shadow

Today the 7th graders were able to job shadow someone, so Kenzie went off to work with Chris this morning.
Here was the real perk of her day "off" of school - going with Dad out to lunch.
Trying sushi for the first time.  Kenzie has always been our best kid at trying new foods.  She said she loved it.  She did have to fill out some papers and has to give a presentation on the career she shadowed, but otherwise it was a fun day for her to follow Dad around.  She even got a sweatshirt from one of his clients.  It sure sounded like hard work to me!

Why We "Had" to Get Take Out for Dinner

Last night my kitchen table was commandeered by two little boys.  They washed off the table (!!), turned the chairs around, covered the chairs in blankets, and stockpiled at least 85% of their possessions under the table with them.  They had their lantern going and many Nerf guns to defend their fort.  After all that work it seemed sad to dismantle their efforts just to use the table, so we got Cafe Rio, set up the TV trays, and watched a movie downstairs.
They decided they would sleep in their fort.  I managed to fit a mattress under there for them since the tile is so hard and cold.  They giggled for a while, but actually slept pretty well under there.  I'm glad they're friends.
Here's the, "Oh, Mom!" look from our resident pre-teen.  I was teasing her that I couldn't leave her out and needed to take a picture of all her high octane excitement as she sat around all day watching movies.  (She did attend the temple at 5:30 this morning, so she gets a partial pass).  And no, Kenzers does not need glasses now.  Those are just frames, because apparently it's cool?  I can't keep up!
